Officer Keith Lions, representing the Punters Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club, asked the Mayor and Board to consider a monetary donation to support the group's state event in May 2026. Lions described the club's charitable work — including aid to officers and military families — and presented sponsorship tiers of $50, $100, $200 and $300. "Everything that we do ... is all charity based," Lions said, and he asked whether the city would consider a sponsorship or individual donations.
Rody Holl, speaking for the Civic Center, presented a late sponsorship request from Academy Sports to host two small booths at upcoming events (a dog trials and a memorial rodeo) in exchange for $3,000 in sponsorship revenue. Holl said the city attorney had reviewed the contract but that some terms and facility rules needed revision. Staff told the board they would ask Academy Sports for revised contract language and, if terms meet the center's rules and the city's police agreement, the city could approve the sponsorship without delaying upcoming events.
Parks and facilities staff briefed the board on options for tennis courts, potential reuse of a donated skate-park footprint and site cleanup at the proposed tennis-complex location. Staff requested $25,000 to contract Drop Engineering for 60% design plans (a procurement step required to pursue a USDA grant discussed at $200,000) and asked authorization to remove scrap panels, surplus poles and an old football field so grading can begin. Council member Jimmy urged transparency about land acquisition and asked the board to authorize staff to pursue negotiations for a preferred parcel; the board voted to authorize staff to pursue the property purchase.
The board approved motions to surplus unrepairable equipment, accepted donations and carried consent items related to parks and the civic center. Staff will return with revised contracts and plan documents for final approval.
