The DeWitt City Council on May 11 approved a special-event application to close South Franklin for the 2026 Street Fest and to allow alcohol consumption in the city right-of-way, contingent on the organizers supplying an approved certificate of insurance.
Councilmember Hunsaker moved to approve the application; Landgraf seconded the motion and the measure passed unanimously with Mayor Sue Leeming and councilmembers Whitman, Kellogg and Landgraf voting in favor. The event is planned for Aug. 1, 2026, and the map dated May 11, 2026, shows the closure area on South Franklin.
The approval allows 3LD Yoga + Strength and Relli’s Sports Bar to proceed with the festival subject to compliance with City Ordinance Chapter 58, Article I, Section 58-1 and the condition that the required insurance certificate be submitted and approved by city staff. The council record notes the approval is contingent on that certificate; no other license or permit conditions were recorded in the transcript.
City staff will review the submitted certificate of insurance for conformity with city requirements before the closure and right-of-way alcohol allowance takes effect. If the certificate is not received or does not meet the city’s requirements, the permit approval is contingent and may be revoked or require additional conditions.
The council’s action completes the local permitting step; organizers may also need to satisfy any additional state or county requirements for the event.
