The Lower Frederick Township Board of Supervisors voted June 2 to accept a quote from Alpha Space Control for line striping of township roads, not to exceed $22,859.27.
Public works presented two bids for striping: Guidemark at $24,376 and Alpha Space Control at $22,859.27. Board members discussed vendor proximity, the value of reference checks and the possibility of commissioning a smaller test section before awarding full work. "If we move forward with Alpha, Tommy and I have talked about maybe doing a smaller project and not do all of our roads just to see how that goes," a member said during the discussion.
After further reference‑checking discussion and confirmation that Alpha is a PennDOT pre‑qualified contractor, the board moved to accept Alpha’s quote and to authorize the township manager to sign necessary paperwork. The motion carried with a 4–1 vote after one supervisor recorded a 'no' vote and said they preferred additional reference checks.
Staff said Alpha’s proposal is valid for 90 days and that references would be obtained before final mobilization. The board noted that if a mobilization were staged (a partial job followed by the remainder) the scope and bid comparisons might have to be revisited, and staff agreed to obtain references and additional clarifications before full execution of the contract.
The award commits the township to the contract amount not to exceed $22,859.27 and places the manager and staff in charge of final contracting steps.
