Plainview-Old Bethpage board honors dozens of students for academic, arts and STEM achievements

Student board representative Samantha Hecker highlighted high school successes, including the induction of 207 National Honor Society members and medalists at the Long Island Math Fair.
District leaders announced individual honors: Mingshan Shei was introduced as the class of 2026 valedictorian and Soha Jabari as salutatorian. The board recognized National Merit winners and finalists and named multiple winners of the AMC 8 math awards, Long Island Math Fair, Long Island Science and Engineering Fair placements and Regeneron ISEF finalists. Presenters from mathematics, science, business and world-language departments read dozens of award recipients across categories including research, translation medicine and world languages exams.
The board also highlighted department awards in music and media: the high school acapella ensemble earned a spot in the semifinals of the national high-school a cappella association competition, and the district’s media club won several broadcast awards.
The recognition program ran through an extended list of winners presented by department directors and building principals. Following the awards, the board paused briefly to allow families and students to depart before proceeding to routine and new business.
The meeting repeatedly emphasized community support, staff contributions to student success and the district’s recent honors such as its College Board AP Honor Roll platinum status.
