The Blaine City Council unanimously ratified a labor agreement for police sergeants on June 1 that runs from Jan. 1, 2026 through Dec. 31, 2028. Director of Administrative Services Johnson presented the agreement and its highlights.
Key terms include a 2026 wage adjustment to reach 50% of market with 3% adjustments in each subsequent year of the agreement, an estimated 2026 budget overage of $683 covered by current vacant positions in the police department, sick-pay caps aligned with prior patrol officer language, increases to the city’s monthly cafeteria-plan contribution, and specified uniform and assignment-pay stipends.
Director Johnson summarized other technical and language updates, and thanked the labor attorney and HR staff for their work on the agreement. Council moved and approved ratification by voice vote.
The agreement is effective immediately for the defined contract period; staff will implement payroll and administrative changes according to the contract provisions.
