The Scott County Board of Commissioners on June 3 adopted an ordinance to create a seven-member Veterans Service Advisory Board to advise the commissioners and the veteran service officer on veterans’ issues. Staff described the board’s membership requirements: appointees must be Scott County residents, honorably discharged from the U.S. Armed Forces and demonstrate knowledge of veterans’ affairs.
Commissioners asked staff to solicit candidate recommendations from local veterans organizations (American Legion posts and similar groups) and the public; staff will gather names and return appointment materials. The ordinance can be signed and given an ordinance number after the clerk updates the record.
Why it matters: The advisory board is intended to give veterans a formal forum to recommend programming, events and service priorities to county leadership.
What’s next: Commissioners will begin appointing members once a slate of candidates is collected and brought forward.
