The Flagstaff City Council on June 2 adopted the tentative fiscal year 2026–27 budget by resolution, setting the total appropriated budget at approximately $627 million and establishing next steps for property tax hearings and final adoption.
Budget Director Heidi Dairberry said the tentative budget aligns with council priorities including public safety funding, compensation and benefits, and climate planning. She said the general fund total is roughly $122 million and that capital outlay drove most of the year‑over‑year increase: "This increase over the year prior was 90.5 million or 35%" in the capital improvement program, she said, pointing to multi‑year transportation and water projects carried forward.
Staff highlighted several operational changes incorporated since the manager’s proposed budget, including additional funding for literacy center programming and $25,000 to support Dark Sky compliance work. Dairberry said the budget also includes employee compensation steps and an increase in parental leave from four to six weeks plus retiree health savings options.
The tentative budget will be published as required; council will hold property tax levy hearings and return for final budget adoption in mid‑June and July.
