Commission approves 2026 cooperative wildfire agreement, contingent on attorney review

County Attorney Steven Stocks and a state representative summarized the program: participating local governments agree to mitigation, planning and preparedness actions; in turn, the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands provides financial protection for qualifying catastrophic events. The county attorney’s office said it would complete a final legal review of the contract language and requested the board approve the agreement contingent on that review. Commissioners approved the motion on those terms.
The commission asked staff to make sure the agreement does not conflict with any other pending wildlands/urban interface cooperative agreements and to review the state’s upcoming high‑risk map that will inform mitigation priorities.
