Commissioners deny beer-and-wine license for Valero Food Mart

Miss Wagner told the Jones County Board of Commissioners on June 1 that the owner of Valero Food Mart on Joy Cliff Road does not reside in the county and that a registered agent—also out of county—had been listed on the application; she said the sheriff’s office had conducted an investigation and submitted findings to the board.
"The owner does not live here, so he had to get a registered agent," Miss Wagner said. The board moved to deny the beer-and-wine license, the motion was seconded, and members approved the denial by voice vote.
No public comment on the license was recorded at the meeting; the county clerk’s office and the sheriff’s department handled the application review and investigation before the board voted.
