Committee backs moving prom day and swapping a half day to avoid Passover conflict

Dr. Yano, who presented the change, said the swap avoids a conflict with Passover and is “student-friendly,” explaining that the district’s prom venue offered an alternate date and the adjustment would let students have a half day on prom day. Dr. Yano said the administration will add the amendment to the June 16 full-board agenda and notify families if the board approves it.
Eileen, a committee member, thanked the administration for considering religious observance when scheduling and said she had not previously cross-checked holidays with the calendar. Committee members expressed general support and asked staff to correct the calendar PDF before it goes to the full board.
No formal vote occurred at the committee meeting; the item was referred to the June 16 board meeting for final action.
