The Foxborough Select Board on June 24 unanimously approved a multiple amendment permitting the Marilyn Rodman Performing Arts Center (MRPAC) to change its license from on‑premise wine and malt to an on‑premise all‑alcohol license and to add an approximately 900‑square‑foot exterior patio at One School Street.
Jim Develis, a Foxborough resident and board member at MRPAC, and Katherine Miller, the theater’s manager and executive director, told the board they pursued the change to give audiences more room at intermission and to support occasional private fundraisers. Develis said the project included recent exterior renovations and new granite stairs and columns; Miller said the patio will be fully gated and staffed during service.
Board members pressed the applicants about service practices and possible bar‑style activity. Miller said the theater will not “pour and mix drinks” as a bar would and that the venue plans to start with one or two premixed/canned cocktails to test demand. She added that the point of sale will remain behind the concession stand, the patio will be staffed at entrances, and identification checks will continue.
Applicants described the patio as roughly 25 by 6 feet (about 900 sq ft) with a capacity of about 30 people. They said private events might use outside bartenders under specific conditions, that catered food is used for larger events, and that the Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission (ABCC) representative had reviewed aspects of their plan.
After public comment and questions, the board voted on three separate motions: (1) change of category from wine & malt to on‑premise all alcohol; (2) change of officer application; and (3) alteration of premises to add the exterior patio. Each motion passed by roll call; Mark, Stephanie, Bill, Amy and Debbie were recorded as voting yes on the items.
The approval allows MRPAC to expand beverage service under the conditions described to the board. Applicants said construction and finishing touches on the patio are expected to conclude in a matter of weeks, and staff will monitor operations and return to the board if policy changes are needed.
