Yorktown board honors PTAs, SEPTA, Alliance for Safe Kids and volunteer groups at community partners night

The Yorktown Central School District Board of Education used its June 1 meeting to celebrate community partners and volunteer groups that support district programs.
Superintendent Dr. Hatter opened the recognition ceremony by thanking administrators and volunteers and inviting representatives from district and school PTAs to speak briefly. PTA leaders described a year of events and programs they ran or supported — from international night and school dances to the “one school, one book” initiative and student scholarships. “We do this all for the kids,” said Ron Fidelli, speaking for the district PTSA, noting long-term volunteer commitment.
High-school and middle-school PTA leaders described efforts to expand engagement and to provide scholarships and enrichment activities; Mohansic Elementary co-presidents credited strong parent–teacher partnerships for creating “meaningful experiences” for students. SEPTA leaders said they revived support groups and monthly themes to assist families.
Liz Talbert, executive director of the Alliance for Safe Kids, described the coalition’s role connecting families to substance-misuse prevention, treatment, recovery and youth mental-health resources and highlighted a program that paired students with seniors at Beaver Ridge apartments.
Performing-arts volunteers, the Huskers athletics supporters and the science research foundation were thanked for fundraising, scholarship support and program backing. Jerry Muchelli of the district’s food-service partner accepted recognition on behalf of the food-service team and praised the district partnership that integrated student menu ideas into offerings.
Dr. Hatter concluded the recognition portion by presenting certificates to student board representatives and to trustees and by thanking the volunteers for their work across the district. The ceremony ended and the board took a brief recess before the student and superintendent reports.
