Yorktown board adopts two policies, deletes a related policy and separates personnel vote after a conflict disclosure
Summary
The board approved second readings and adoption of policies 5151 (students in temporary housing) and 8131 (epidemic and pandemic planning), voted to delete policy 8131.01 as its language was incorporated into 8131, and pulled personnel appointments from consent for a separate vote where one trustee abstained because a relative appeared on the appointments list.
At its June 1 meeting the Yorktown Central School District Board of Education approved two policy actions and handled a personnel conflict-of-interest disclosure.
The board approved the second reading and adoption of policy 5151, Education of Students in Temporary Housing and Unaccompanied Youth, and policy 8131, Epidemic and Pandemic Planning. The chair called for the motion, trustees moved and seconded, and the motions were carried in open session.
Separately, the board moved to delete policy 8131.01, titled Health and Safety Measures During Epidemics and Pandemics, on the rationale that the relevant language had been incorporated into policy 8131. The deletion motion was moved, seconded and carried.
On the consent agenda, a trustee requested that personnel matters be pulled for separate consideration because of a personal conflict. The board agreed. During the personnel vote one trustee stated, “I'm going to abstain from the vote…because I have a relative on the list,” and the personnel recommendations were recorded as approved with that abstention noted on the record.
The board proceeded to other business and adjourned. The transcript records motion and second and general affirmative voice votes (“All those in favor? I”), but it does not list individual roll-call tallies in the record for these motions.
The board also earlier moved into and out of an executive session to discuss employment of particular pedagogical employees and confidential matters under FERPA before the public portion of the meeting.
