The Planning Commission unanimously approved a major special‑event permit for the Kids Adventure Race, a family‑oriented youth event proposed for Aug. 28–30 at Big Bear Mountain Resort. Staff said the event is targeted at children ages 6–14 in two‑person teams and will use resort facilities and established recreational trails in the San Bernardino National Forest.
Staff reported an anticipated total attendance of roughly 3,000 spectators and attendees over the three‑day event, and approximately 300 race participants. The base area will hold the expo, skills clinics, awards and athlete check‑in; staff said parking will be handled with resort lots and an existing traffic management plan with no proposed street closures and emergency access preserved.
Staff recommended approval and a categorical CEQA exemption under Section 15304 for temporary recreational events. A motion to adopt the resolution approving the application (SC2026‑0001) carried 5–0 and was adopted as resolution 2026‑10; the resolution takes effect in 10 days unless appealed to the planning division.
Next steps: Conditions listed in the resolution and staff report will govern final event permits and operations prior to and during the three‑day event.
