Boynton Beach to piggyback RedSpeed contract to restore school-zone speed cameras

The commission approved Resolution R26-096 authorizing staff to piggyback a contract with New Port Richey and RedSpeed to restore school-zone speed enforcement after the prior vendor relationship was canceled. Staff said the timing—summer break—gives several weeks to switch vendors and have equipment operational before students return.
Staff cited experience in other Florida municipalities where RedSpeed took over similar programs and reported a rapid turnaround. Kevin Malon of RedSpeed told the commission his firm was prepared to begin work and described prior transitions as "very quick and seamless." The commission voted to approve the piggyback resolution.
Next steps: staff will finalize the piggyback contract and coordinate equipment and timing with school schedules to restore active enforcement prior to the fall term.
