Residents urge renaming of Liberty Park and call for parking fixes near West Middle School

At the City of Nampa public forum on June 1, Melissa Sue Robinson urged councilors to rename Liberty Park on 12th Avenue Road to honor local volunteer Rick Hogaboam, proposing a memorial and a park name change that would include signage and interpretive elements.
"Naming a public space after such an individual creates a lasting reminder for future generations," Robinson said, asking the council to begin discussions with the Hogaboam family and community leaders.
Tyler Rogers, a nearby resident, told councilors he has seen tournament parking spill into adjacent yards at the ballpark by the former West Middle School and proposed adding a south-side entrance to the parking lot and speed bumps on South Sky Drive to slow traffic.
"With that additional entrance ... it'll cause a lot more traffic on Sky Drive where I live and I would propose ... that we'd put some speed bumps down Sky Drive," Rogers said, adding he sent a PowerPoint with photos to the council earlier that evening.
Cody Swander, director of Parks and Recreation, told the council tournament organizers are responsible for parking under event agreements and that staff does not encourage parking on the grass, but acknowledged spillover into neighborhoods occurs and is managed through those agreements.
The comments were made during the non-public-hearing public forum; the council moved next to agenda business including consent items.
