County staff described the tax option as a state-authorized incentive intended to attract data centers by taxing servers and related IT equipment as personal property at a specialized lower or different rate than other personal property. Staff provided revenue examples tied to facility size: "for every 5 cent, uh, tax on a 250,000 foot facility ... we would collect about 37,500," and showed scaled estimates for larger buildouts (staff noted hypothetical revenues for a 250,000-square-foot building and for multiple buildings if a data center company built 12–15 facilities).
After discussing the examples and staff's recommendation of a 95¢ rate, a supervisor moved to authorize staff to advertise the public hearing on that rate; the motion passed on roll call. The advertisement and a subsequent public hearing will precede any final ordinance adoption.
