During the June 2 work session commissioners discussed a request from absent Chair Tye Menser to authorize outreach to the four other counties that make up the Timberland Regional Library area. Commissioners agreed to authorize the chair to reach out and convene a meeting of the other county chairs to discuss recent concerns about the library system’s governance and report back to the Thurston County Board of County Commissioners.
A motion to authorize Commissioner Menser to speak on behalf of the board was moved, seconded and approved by members present; the chair was excused for the session. Commissioners stressed that Timberland Regional Library is an independent junior taxing district whose trustees are appointed by county commissioners across the participating counties and require unanimous approval.
On advisory‑board business, staff recommended appointment of Rebecca Katnich to the Tourism Promotion Area (hotel and motel commission) to fill seat number one for a one‑year term. Commissioners expressed informal support and agreed to move the recommendation onto a future agenda for formal action.
No additional formal actions were recorded at the June 2 work session on either item; the board will consider the TPA appointment at a future meeting.
