Albert Construction Company Inc. of Fitchburg as the lowest responsible bidder for Russell Street resurfacing, sidewalks and curb work (contract no. 2026-8) in the amount of $291,545; members discussed timing (post-school season) and curb consistency (granite curbing included in the scope). The motion to award the contract and authorize signature passed by roll call.
The board also awarded the Frog Pond restoration project (contract no. 2026-7) to MJ Cataldo Inc. of Littleton as the low bidder at $156,000. The project uses two funding sources (approximately $88,000 from Community Preservation Committee funds and roughly $70,000 from DPW dredging/roadway budgets). Board members asked about the typical lifespan of boardwalks (staff said about 15 years) and authorized the town administrator to sign the contract.
Both motions were recorded by roll-call vote. Staff said work is expected to begin after school is out and that the DPW director will confirm curbing and timing details; the board encouraged staff to check whether Complete Streets grants could still be applied to the project.
