County approves water-treatment plans for Metal Pond Elementary; town cites $425,000 estimate

The Westchester County Department of Health has approved plans for water-supply improvements at Metal (Met) Pond Elementary School, the Lewisboro Town Board was told at its May 27 meeting.
A board member read a communication from county health officials saying the approved work covers treatment to address uranium and other contaminants at the school’s noncommunity public water supply at 185 Smith Ridge Road. The board reported an estimated project cost of $425,000 and said the documentation will be incorporated into the meeting minutes.
Board members did not vote on funding at the meeting; one member asked whether the school district would pay and a response noted taxpayer responsibility could be involved. The board said the information will be shared with the building inspector and with staff handling school-site improvements and that next steps will include confirming which entity is responsible for construction and cost allocation.
