Residents urge limits on through trucks on Meat Street, citing safety and road damage

Two residents told the Lewisboro Town Board on May 27 that heavy volumes and large trucks on Meat Street are creating safety problems and damaging pavement.
Christine Bilby and Brian Bilby, who said they live at 233 Meat Street, described narrow curves and frequent large trucks that they said force drivers to back up and that contribute to road wear and noise. "Between 7:30 to 9 or 9:30 every weekday morning there probably are four to 500 cars that go by," Brian Bilby said, adding that the volume has become “unrelenting.” He asked the board to consider banning through trucks and adding truck route signage, noting cooperation with North Salem would be necessary because some turning movements occur outside Lewisboro.
Board members thanked the speakers and indicated the town will look into options. The board said it would pursue traffic studies and consider traffic-calming measures and enforcement increases, and invited residents to provide locations and data to help staff prioritize work. No formal restriction was adopted at the meeting; the board described the matter as under study and subject to coordination with county or neighboring jurisdictions.
