Revere City honors more than 100 students in annual academic trophy ceremony

More than 100 students were recognized Wednesday evening during Revere City’s annual academic trophy ceremony, organizers said. The awards program — presented as the Covala/Koala trophies — recognizes students for classroom achievement and community leadership.
Patrick, identified in the meeting as the city’s mayor, opened the event with thanks to educators and families and said the ceremony is a long‑running city tradition. “We have always thought that investing money in education is the best way to invest our money or the city’s money,” he said.
Presentations were made by school principals and staff from multiple schools. Individual students cited in the meeting included Alexis Aiona, Alexa, Valentina, Alexander, Jacob and others; principals described each student’s academic strengths, extracurricular participation and future aspirations (for example, several students said they want to pursue college or careers in teaching, engineering or public service).
Organizers said 108 students will receive $200 each (a figure presented in the meeting totaling roughly $18,000). The committee also announced four $1,000 scholarships to assist students with college expenses; recipients named during the meeting included Genesis Metápoles and Julia Figueroa. Goodwill and other community donors were credited for supporting the awards and related events.
The ceremony included family photo opportunities and short remarks from principals and teachers. The city paused for a brief break after the awards segment before continuing with the evening’s municipal business.
