Board approves event and street permits for summer and fall gatherings

The Franklin City Board of Public Works and Safety on June 1 approved several routine permits for summer events and private projects.

A resident who identified herself as Holly asked for a dumpster on East Adam Street to remove driveway gravel and concrete; the board approved the request for June 18–19 after advising the dumpster company to protect the roadway surface. "I want a driveway ripped out and grass planted," Holly said, explaining the need for the container.

Andy Bowwin requested an alley closure on the south side of his building for an outdoor "summer porch party" on Aug. 14 with food and beverage trucks. Bowwin said the group held the event last year and will coordinate with city staff for signage and neighbor outreach; the board approved the closure. "We have this party every year for our interns…representing Franklin well," Bowwin said.

Jenna Roof, introduced as Beach Grove Moose president, asked for police assistance to shepherd cyclists through the State Road 44 to I‑65 corridor during the annual organized ride on June 27. She said construction forced a minor route change; the board approved police support and asked staff to finalize the alternate route.

All three items were moved, seconded and approved during the meeting. The board also approved the consent agenda and claims before addressing new business. The board did not record a roll‑call tally of individual votes in the transcript: members gave unanimous vocal assent.
