The Bel Aire City Council carried several routine and project-related items at its June 2 meeting. All recorded motions below passed on voice votes with four in favor and none opposed.
Appropriations ordinance (No. 26-10): Council approved an ordinance covering city expenditures from May 13–26 totaling $653,400; staff reported $257,343 of that total are infrastructure costs tied to new developments funded through special assessments. Motion by Emily Hamburg; second by Brandon Macintosh. Vote: 4–0.
PEC work order for Woodlon reconstruction (Work Order No. 26-20): Council approved a work order with PEC for construction administration and geotechnical services necessary for the Woodlon reconstruction project. The scope includes bi-weekly progress meeting attendance, site visits, geotechnical engineering support and written status updates. The contract was authorized not to exceed $162,500. Motion by Tyler Dean; second by Brandon Macintosh. Vote: 4–0.
Harding lift station pump replacement (JCI contract): Council approved a contract with JCI to replace a FlowServe grinder pump at the Harding lift station with a Flyght-brand submersible pump (to standardize equipment across city lift stations), not to exceed $78,265. Public Works Director Marty McGee said other Flyght pumps have performed well and reduced sewer backups. Motion by Brandon Macintosh; second by Tyler Dean. Vote: 4–0.
Fireworks display agreement (WAUP Fireworks): Council authorized a fireworks display synchronized to patriotic music for July 11, 2026 (backup July 12) and approved an agreement with WAUP Fireworks not to exceed $10,000. Staff said the city intends to fund the event primarily through sponsorships and donations but requested authority to sign the contract and cover any shortfall. Motion by Mike Proctor; second by Brandon Macintosh. Vote: 4–0.
Other actions: The council approved a first amendment to the 2026 funding agreement with the Bel Aire Chamber of Commerce (see separate coverage) and voted to table a building-code ordinance to allow staff to vet the draft against SB418 and IRC 2018 references.
