The township’s acting police representative presented the May public-safety report, saying calls for service rose to 747 — 131 more than the prior month — and that the department responded to thefts, drug arrests, DUIs, fraud investigations and a serious barricade incident.
The report listed seven thefts, one criminal mischief, one drug arrest with seized THC and other substances, eight DUIs, 108 traffic citations and six reportable accidents (one serious). The presenter noted one stolen vehicle entered the township; officers declined to pursue per policy and notified county dispatch. He also described a prolonged barricade/arrest warrant service that turned into a hostage-style situation; after roughly two hours of negotiation the subject came out without injuries and officers recovered a loaded firearm.
Residents asked about enforcement for faster e-bikes and the new hands-free phone law; police said state licensing and enforcement will be implemented when available and that overtime details for enforcement are expected. A board member publicly thanked officers for their work and the acting chief said many officers have crisis-intervention training.
