East Pikeland supervisors voted to advertise a comprehensive zoning amendment and a public hearing addressing data centers, the board said, setting the hearing for the July meeting and directing staff to publish the ordinance notice in the local paper and on the township website.
Board members told residents that the planning commission and the Phoenix Regional Planning Committee are drafting model ordinance language that would allow townships to limit aspects of potential data-center proposals — from setbacks to water and energy use — and that any substantive input should be raised at the planning commission or at the advertised public hearing. One supervisor said the regional committee had “come up with a model township” approach that others could use rather than duplicating work.
The board’s motion to advertise the public hearing was passed by voice vote. The board also said the county is reviewing East Pikeland’s existing ordinance language and that final text will be posted for public review prior to the hearing. Staff told the meeting the ordinance notice will appear in the local newspaper as required and on the township website.
