Al Moore, executive director of the Christian Service Program, reported a year-to-date increase in meals served and described how parish funding supports the organization's food purchases. Moore said the nonprofit served 39,450 meals from Jan. 1 to May 31 this year, compared with 30,610 in the same period last year — an increase of 8,840 meals. He said parish funds are restricted to food supplies and cannot be used for other expenses; the ministry relies on private donations, local foundations and a close relationship with the food bank to supplement purchases.
Commission members thanked Moore for continuing Sister Margaret's legacy and noted volunteer opportunities; Moore provided volunteer times (weekday mornings and lunch shifts seven days a week) and urged donations. He also gave sample donation amounts and impact: "$30 a month will feed one person for seven days. $130 a month will feed one person for 30 days," Moore said.
No formal funding decision was made during the session.
