A representative of Volunteers of America North Louisiana described a portfolio of services funded in part by Caddo Parish grants, including an afterschool Lighthouse program, summer programming and veteran services.
The speaker said the Lighthouse afterschool program served nearly 500 students and delivered 35,421 meals last year; the program also includes homework help, enrichment activities and field trips. The organization operates summer Camp Globe and said about 300 children are registered for the upcoming summer program, which provides breakfast and lunch.
Volunteers of America also described housing and veteran services: low-barrier shelter options, transitional living for veterans, permanent supportive housing, and a new medical-respite program contracted with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to provide recuperative care for veterans after hospitalization.
The speaker thanked commissioners for past support for meals and program operations and invited commissioners and residents to visit programs, volunteer, or donate.
