Jackson Public Schools honors scholars and long-term community partners at 46th Salute to Scholars

Jackson Public Schools held its 46th annual Salute to Scholars at Forest Hill High School, honoring the top 10 seniors from each district high school and recognizing community partners that support students and teachers.

District leaders presented the colors with the Provine JROTC and then recognized 30 students inducted into the ACT 30-plus club, including 17 new inductees. The program also included special recognition for JOTC cadets and other outstanding scholars.

Superintendent Dr. Eric L. Green addressed the gathering, congratulating scholars and urging them to consider college, career and family decisions thoughtfully: "Want to take this time to celebrate all of you and to encourage you as you continue to make big decisions about what comes next in your lives." He called the event a moment to acknowledge students' discipline, perseverance and academic excellence.

Organizers announced three seniors signing to continue collegiate track careers: two students committing to Hines Community College and one to Jackson State University. Students onstage reflected on team chemistry and the emotional importance of scholarship opportunities.

The event also celebrated long-term adopters and community partners, listing milestone anniversaries (five, 10, 15, 20, 25 and up to 45 years) between specific schools and churches, nonprofits and businesses. Organizers thanked sponsors of a breakfast served by the JPS Child Nutrition Department, which the transcript named as Southern Farm Bureau and Keiesler Federal Credit Union.

Speakers repeatedly emphasized the reciprocal benefits of partnerships: volunteers and businesses help remove obstacles so scholars can focus on academics while employers and faith organizations build a stronger community. The program closed with applause and invitations to visit administrative services at the district's Reigns administrative complex.
