Baker County commissioners voted June 2 to adopt Ordinance 2026-09, rezoning roughly 10 acres owned by Cynthia and Burton Bishop from Agriculture 7.5 to Agriculture 5. Planning staff described the property as split by Leon Dobson Road, with most surrounding parcels having similar low-density zoning. The applicants said the rezoning would allow them to place a secondary dwelling to house a friend who will help with medical and household needs.
Planning staff recommended approval and noted the County’s land-use maps and DRC comments raised no unresolved environmental concerns. The local planning agency (LPA) discussed spot-zoning concerns but ultimately recommended approval by a 3–1 vote. Several neighbors and the property owner’s supporter spoke in favor during the public hearing, noting existing five-acre lots nearby.
Commissioners discussed the configuration of the road and existing nonconforming lots nearby and concluded the rezoning was consistent with the surrounding pattern; the ordinance was read by title and adopted by voice vote.
What’s next: staff will record the change on the zoning map and proceed with any follow-on permitting requested by the property owners.
