Commission approves extra ARPA spending to finish NAB Sports Complex phase 2 work

Baker County commissioners on June 2 approved an additional $210,000 in ARPA funds to expand work on the NAB Sports Complex while construction for Phase II is under way. Staff said the county has $450,000 already allocated for phase 2 (approximately $400,000 ARPA and $50,000 from First Federal) to build a new concession/restroom complex and complete field improvements.
Sarah Little and volunteer leaders described the near-term construction schedule and noted volunteer labor and donated equipment will be used where possible. Staff recommended taking advantage of the contractors and volunteers while they are mobilized to complete additional improvements to the senior field (K1), dugouts, fencing, drainage and other finishing items for an estimated additional $210,000. Staff said adequate ARPA funding is available and that quotes will be brought back to the board for procurement awards in accordance with county purchasing policies.
Commissioners moved, seconded and approved the $210,000 ARPA authorization by voice vote. Staff said volunteers would present quotes and that formal contract awards would return to the commission for final approvals.
What’s next: staff will solicit required quotes, comply with procurement rules and return recommended awards to the board for formal approvals.
