County begins probate petition to secure long‑used Olesie Park property

Staff told the board on June 2 that Olesie Park has been maintained by Baker County since 1984 but is privately owned and now subject to probate after the most recent owner’s death. Because the county has long discussed upgrades but hesitated while the property remained privately held, staff recommended filing a petition for summary administration so the county can pursue ownership or acquisition through probate.
Sarah Little said the county retained L Douglas Law Firm to lead probate actions; staff reported an initial retainer of approximately $2,500 and said further costs will be brought back to the board if the probate reveals additional complications. Commissioners expressed support for pursuing the petition to preserve the community park and asked staff to include progress updates on the pending-business report.
The board approved the petition by motion and voice vote.
What’s next: staff will proceed with the summary-administration filing, track legal costs, and return to the board if purchase of the property becomes necessary.
