County accepts $500,000 state funding for Council on Aging phase two, notes $50,000 local match

Baker County commissioners on June 2 approved a $500,000 funding agreement from the State of Florida to support phase two of the Council on Aging project, which staff said will provide a paved parking lot, a sidewalk and an awning connecting the new senior Life Enrichment Center to the transportation department.
Sarah Little briefed the board and clarified that the appropriation included a required $50,000 local match that was omitted in the meeting packet in error. Staff asked the board to approve the state agreement and to remember the match during upcoming budget workshops.
Commissioners asked about lighting and potential partnerships with Florida Power & Light; staff said they have discussed potential FPL contributions that helped keep the county’s match lower. The board approved the funding agreement by motion and voice vote.
What’s next: staff will include the $50,000 match in the near-term budget planning and proceed with design and permitting work.
