Board approves multiple budget amendments and an interim budget resolution amid state budget uncertainty

The board reviewed and approved budget amendments on June 2 that adjusted state, local, federal and capital outlay funds to reflect new textbook allocations, transportation and program needs and county-coupled capital funding. Finance staff explained line items, including an added $86,192 to the state fund (textbook adoption), $81,049 in local funds (fines/forfeiture adjustments) and federal-grants adjustments of roughly $154,390. Staff also noted $4.5 million added to capital outlay for South Granville and JF Webb projects, funded in part by county advances and to be formalized through the financing action the board approved.
Administration discussed the state-level budget situation: the General Assembly had reported a framework but no final enacted state budget; staff said the district had been operating under continuation funding and is not waiting on a final enacted state appropriation to manage district finances for the start of fiscal year 2026–27. To provide routine operating authority until a final state budget is adopted, administration asked the board to approve an interim budget resolution allowing the superintendent to allocate funds as needed.
Board members approved the budget amendments and the interim budget resolution by voice vote; administration said it will report back with finalized June 30 financials and any adjustments once the state budget process is completed.
