Mayor outlines summer programs, community center renovations and preservation grants in remote message

The mayor delivered a remote message to the city council and community, emphasizing investments in youth programming, renovated community centers and historic preservation efforts.

The mayor said Montgomery will continue investing in summer camps and youth programs through the parks and recreation department, with registration open for a program serving ages 6–17 from June 1 to July 24, and daily meals provided through a break-for-a-plate initiative. He praised last week’s ribbon-cutting at the renovated Regency Park community center and said the administration hopes to replicate the revitalization in other neighborhoods.

As part of broader West Montgomery revitalization, the mayor said the Fairview Farmers Market (at 60 Fair View Avenue) will undergo substantial upgrades under the Fairview Avenue master plan to modernize the facility and expand opportunities for growers and small businesses. He also said the Biden Hotel, recently named on an endangered historic places list, received a $25,000 grant from the National Trust for Historic Preservation and noted the Conservation Fund’s 2025 acquisition to prevent demolition and support stabilization efforts.

The mayor reported recent federal advocacy in Washington seeking infrastructure and public-safety appropriations — including requests tied to corridor improvements and vehicle acquisitions. He closed by promoting city events: Move Montgomery’s color run on June 13 and the Diamond Youth Baseball 2026 Alabama Rookie State Tournament (June 4–8), and the 12th annual Dragon Boat Festival on June 13 at Riverfront Park.

The mayor framed the investments as part of an effort to build “a city where progress is rooted in service, collaboration, and shared purpose.”
