Board honors students, notes highest recent on-time graduation rate and approves summer trips, purchases

At its regular meeting, the Laramie County School District #1 Board of Trustees recognized multiple student and staff achievements, heard reports on graduations and approved a set of routine and new-business items.
Recognitions included Central High School’s Student of the Week, Clayton Foder, who was praised for leadership in DECA, service with the Student Council Association and fundraising for Make-A-Wish. Western Vista Federal Credit Union presented certificates and Visa gift cards to the student and teacher of the week. Alta Vista Elementary was honored as a 2026 National Gold Star School by the National Association of Elementary School Principals. East High School’s softball and track-and-field state champions were also recognized by principals and coaches.
Superintendent Dr. Newton reported that the district had 93 graduates from four schools and said the on-time graduation rate exceeded pre-pandemic levels and was the highest in seven years. He noted the count remains in flux for students who may meet requirements before a Sept. 15 deadline.
On votes, the board approved permission for Central High speech and debate students to fundraise for national competition in Richmond, Virginia (June 14–19, 2026) and for Central High varsity and JV cheer teams to fundraise for national competition in Orlando, Florida (Feb. 4–8, 2027); the cheer motion passed despite one voiced opposition. The board also approved a purchase of weight-room equipment for South High School for an amount not to exceed $70,000 to be funded from South High’s budget.
The meeting closed with a motion to move into executive session for long-term suspensions, expulsions, personnel and legal advice.
