School board approves Payer Matrix contract to contain high-cost prescription spending

The Laramie County School District #1 Board of Trustees approved an agreement with Payer Matrix LLC to provide prescription drug cost-containment and patient advocacy services for the district health plan.
Trustee Ashby asked what “cost containment services” would mean in practice. District consultant Mr. Curelli explained the contract focuses on high-cost specialty prescription drugs, helping members identify manufacturer rebates and incentive programs and, in some cases, reducing or eliminating out-of-pocket costs for employees. He said the service also seeks to lower overall district pharmacy spending.
Mr. Curelli offered an earlier estimate from the consultant review that the district could potentially save about $2.3 to $2.4 million using the service. The board authorized the superintendent, CFO or their designee to execute and administer the agreement.
The motion passed by voice vote. The administration did not provide a detailed implementation timeline in the meeting; staff will handle contracting and onboarding under the superintendent/CFO authority.
