Jill updated the committee on the status of the county audit, saying auditors completed detailed review of substantive audit areas (including cash) and that financial statements are expected to be ready within about two weeks, followed by the final compliance review and a management letter.
"So it looks like that they are compiling all their information together now ... and they're anticipating having the financials ready within the next two weeks," Jill said.
Committee members discussed whether to solicit proposals for audit services even though the county is not required to put the audit out for competitive bid. Several members said proposals (rather than formal bids) would be prudent as a matter of good practice and would allow the county to compare firms' approaches, request on-site work and evaluate track records. The committee asked staff to assemble a list of recommended firms and to draft a request for proposals to bring back to the committee.
Committee members emphasized the importance of in-person work and prioritization by any firm selected after the county experienced delays in getting audit deliverables in the past. No final selection was made; staff will prepare a draft RFP/proposal request and return with recommendations.
