Stafford reports $5 million NJDEP Natural Climate Solutions grant for Popular Point marsh restoration

Mayor Robert Henken reported to Stafford Township Council on April 28 that the township has received a $5 million Natural Climate Solutions grant from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection to support restoration of Popular Point tidal marsh using dredge materials. He said the NJDEP also announced a second grant through the same program to continue restoration and dredging work in the area.
Henken told the council a workshop will be held on May 21 to review the marsh restoration project and plans to dredge the Beach Haven West lagoons. He credited collaborative partners including the NJDEP for funding and Save Barnegat Bay for support in tree plantings and related environmental work at recent Arbor Day activities.
