Tunica County supervisors approve engineering firm for USDOT Safe Streets plan and $50,838 construction payment

The Tunica County Board of Supervisors met Thursday and approved a slate of routine administrative and infrastructure items, including selection of an engineering firm for a federally supported safety plan and payment on a sanitary-improvement contract.
Chair called the meeting to order for Thursday, May 28 and asked Pastor Oliver to give the invocation. After prayer, the board unanimously approved the meeting agenda and moved through a series of staff requests.
Staff presented a travel notice for Arabia Smith to attend a basic dispatcher certification course in Columbus, Mississippi, June 7–12, with a $395 registration fee plus hotel and meal reimbursement. The board also approved a $69 manual check to Tunica Express Inc. as a fuel reimbursement and voted to remove identified unserviceable items from county inventory for disposal.
A resident matter raised by Berkeley Banks drew a board direction that the road department cut grass at four addresses (1153 Cedar Bridal, 1180 Cedar Drive, 2685 Julani Road and 2478 Highway 3); the board moved, seconded and carried the request.
Under new business, staff recommended approving Neil Schafer as the highest-rated engineering firm to develop the 2025 USDOT Safe Streets for All safety action plan for Tunica County. The board approved the selection.
The board also approved pay application number 1 for Ontario Construction LLC on the Tunica County Utility District (TCUD) White Oak subdivision sanitary improvement project in the amount of $50,838.68.
Additional routine approvals included acceptance of the county credit card report, payroll, and the claims docket. Staff reported travel requests for Hylan Oliver to attend the MAPPA meeting in Jackson on June 10 and for Connor Green Grant to attend a conference in Biloxi, June 23–26; both travel requests were approved.
With no further business, the board adjourned and set its next meeting for Monday, June 1 at 4 p.m.
