Collierville approves full renovation of Johnson Park boardwalk; Nabholz lowest apparent bidder

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved a construction-services contract May 11 to renovate the original 2000 section of the Johnson Park boardwalk.
Public Works Director Josh Russell described a full teardown and rebuild of the original section, construction of a temporary pedestrian crossing, a concrete approach with an ADA-accessible ramp leading to a raised boardwalk (roughly 20 inches of elevation), and reconstruction of the gazebo on helical piers to address wet ground conditions at the rear of the site. Russell said 36 vendors were notified, 12 requested documents and five bids were received; Nabholz Construction was the lowest apparent bidder. The budget required a $8,678 draw from CIP contingency, which staff said keeps the project near prior projections despite schedule slippage.
Board members asked whether more permanent materials had been evaluated. Staff replied the intent is to retain a natural wood appearance because of the park setting and concerns that some alternative materials could be slippery when moist. The motion to award passed on roll call; staff said the project will proceed with standard procurement steps and that the town will plan future sections separately because of cost and scope.
