Tunica workforce office reports $1M+ Department of Labor grants for EMT, CDL, welding and EV training

Miss Young, the county's workforce development representative, updated the board on several federally funded training initiatives. She said the county secured just over $1,000,000 in Department of Labor grant funding to run four programs: EMT, commercial driver's license (CDL), manufacturing, and electric-vehicle/renewable-energy training.
Miss Young said the office paused one activity temporarily to assist the local school district with WorkKeys testing for 52 students under the state's accountability changes. She also said the workforce office recently submitted a grant to start an HVAC class and had added funds to expand its welding program after local employers requested more welders.
On placement, Miss Young said two recent EMT graduates are pursuing opportunities with local ambulance providers and that other trainees are completing ride-along training hours in Tunica as part of their certification process.
Board members asked about training partners and certification pathways; Miss Young said some instructors are affiliated with Pafford (a regional ambulance service) and that the workforce center coordinates with local high schools and community college partners to place students.
