Board approves free county property assessments by public adjuster; FEMA discovery deadline flagged

Leo Fleming, a public adjuster, told the Claiborne County Board of Supervisors he can perform free inspections of county-owned properties to document damage and advise on potential insurance and FEMA/MEMA recoveries. Fleming said the process typically begins with an insurance carrier review; if additional recoveries are pursued he would work the insurance claim and then submit to MEMA/FEMA where appropriate. He described his firm's contingency arrangement: if recoveries are collected Fleming's fee would be a percentage (stated in the presentation as 10%) of monies recouped.
The board voted to allow Fleming to inspect county properties and asked him to provide a signed letter of intent; Fleming said the letter in the meeting packet should be signed and returned to begin work.
Separately, Emergency Management Director Mr. Ratliff reminded the board that the FEMA discovery/submission deadline for county damage was June 10 and asked county staff to prioritize discovery reporting. Ratliff said he would post deadline information for internal and inter-county use.
