Dunn County approves large road contractor payments and adds Rodeo Ridge paving to 2027 budget after split vote

The board approved a $987,437.73 pay estimate to Baranko Brothers for work on 7th St., 113th Ave. and 10th St.; a $367,561.07 pay estimate to Edward Schwartz Construction for work on 103rd Ave. SW; and a $20,910.58 pay estimate to Winn Construction for 3T St. SW. Each payment was approved by roll call vote with all commissioners recorded as voting in favor.
During road department updates, Road Superintendent Mike Karey briefed the board on the Rodeo Ridge Street paving project in Killdeer. Commissioner Heiser proposed the county pay half of the street portion only (excluding sidewalks and street lights), an estimated county share of about $855,350, and to pay half of the shooting complex paving. Commissioner Heiser moved to add those projects to the 2027 budget; Commissioner Olson seconded. Commissioners Heiser, Olson and Dolezal voted aye; Commissioner Kleemann voted no. The motion carried.
Commissioners did not adopt final 2027 budget appropriations at the meeting; the vote places the two paving projects into the 2027 budget planning process. No final contract modifications or additional funding authorizations were recorded at the meeting.
The board also approved a large capital warrant for JE Dunn Construction ($664,099.00) listed in the vouchers; the warrant list was approved as presented.
