Frederick County preservation staff present draft plan; public comment open through June 2

Staff and consultants introduced a draft update to Frederick County’s Historic Preservation Plan and invited public comment through June 2, 2026. Historic Preservation Planner Amanda Whitmore and Planner Beau Lockard led the presentation with consultants from Designing Local, LTD.—including Josh Lapp, Megan Adornetto and Andrew Ebel—outlining goals for the updated plan and opportunities for community engagement.
Vice Chair Jack Lynch said he had read the document and called it “very well written, very well laid out and was a good easy document for the public to follow through and understand where they are going and what has been accomplished.” Commissioner Mark Andros added that he liked the plan’s media and photography.
The presentation highlighted that the County Register currently includes 42 individual historic landmarks and one historic district and described outreach strategies and implementation goals. Staff told the Commission the draft will be discussed again at the June 3 meeting, after which the Commission may recommend a version of the plan to the County Council for consideration.
Public comment on the draft is being accepted through June 2, 2026 via the Frederick County Historic Preservation website. The Commission did not take a formal vote on the plan at the May 6 meeting; members reserved further review for the June 3 agenda.
Upcoming procedural steps include the June 3 Commission review and any subsequent formal recommendation to the County Council.
