Sussex board approves finances, equipment, recycling rules and appoints new clerk

At its March 24 meeting the Village of Sussex Board approved several routine and administrative items including finance, public works and personnel actions.
Finance: The board approved the February check registers and P-card statements totaling $3,274,382.82 on a motion by Trustee Benjamin Jarvis, seconded by Trustee Greg Zoellick. The board also approved Resolution 26-05 authorizing redemption of certain General Obligation Street Improvement Bonds, Series 2016B, and approved an outdoor establishment permit for Hahn’s Ace Hardware (N64W24330 Main Street). All votes recorded in this portion of the meeting carried 7-0.
Public works and operations: Trustees approved February public works invoices totaling $684,614.06; passed Resolution 26-06 supporting the Waukesha County Established Street and Highway Width Map for CHW K at a 150-foot right-of-way; approved rebuilding raw sewage pump #2 at the WWTF; and authorized replacement of a 2008 utility pickup truck with a 2026 Ford F-150 from Lynch Truck Center for $48,747. The board also approved Ordinance 908 to repeal and recreate Chapter 9.07(12) concerning recycling, compost, garbage and rubbish removal standards. These motions carried unanimously.
Personnel and other items: The Lion’s Club presented a $10,000 donation to support The Ridge. The board by unanimous vote appointed Melanie Van Kauwenberg as Clerk/Treasurer effective April 20, 2026.
Staff reports included that applications are being accepted for the Fire Chief position and for a communications coordinator, that in-person absentee voting began March 24 in the Clerk’s office, and that Village Attorney John Macy is monitoring numerous state bills on the governor’s desk.
