Meredith Village Pathways Committee sets Laverack Trail cleanup, approves website renewal

Cheryl Wilson, chair of the Meredith Village Pathways Committee, called the April 14, 2026 meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. at the Town Hall Annex. The committee approved the March 10 minutes after a motion by Rod Wilson and a second from Bob Knoll.
Andrea Bourn reported account balances of $32,437.49 in the Hawkins Brook Bank account and $1,260.00 in the Pathways account, and presented the committee's updated trail inventory. She identified several missing plant tags — witch hazel, multiflora rose, speckled alder, Christmas fern and cinnamon fern — and said she would obtain replacements. (A plant name transcribed as “lithrod” appears in the inventory; the spelling is unclear in the record.)
On trail operations, Bourn and others recapped that the Laverack Trail was opened April 4. John MacKinnon said Heather LaDue at GMP has volunteers available for trail work on May 8. Committee members discussed needed tread repairs at the bank end of the trail and slope stabilization at the Prescott Park end; volunteers Wendell Rizzo and Bill Gartner were cited as local helpers. The committee set a cleanup date of April 30 at 9:00 a.m.
MacKinnon also reported he is developing a design for a shade feature at the boardwalk bump-out. Separately, Andrea presented Eco-counter data; John MacKinnon and Andy installed a new eco-counter at the Prescott Park end, and Bob Knoll volunteered to learn the reporting and graphing as Andrea's backup.
Committee members identified several maintenance tasks: cracked wood on the library book box and a camera that is falling; Rod Wilson and Bob Knoll agreed to handle those repairs. The committee discussed renewing its trail website domain and hosting, which must be paid by May 2 for about $152. Krystal Alpers said she cannot complete the Town website posting by that deadline. John MacKinnon moved, and Bob Knoll seconded, a motion to approve payment for the existing website renewal not to exceed $152; the motion passed unanimously.
Abby Mercer will distribute the weekly cleanup schedule to the Friends of the Laverack Trail and committee members; Janis Roberts will maintain the schedule while Mercer is away. The committee set its next meeting for May 12, 2026, and adjourned at 9:45 a.m.
