Sussex Village Board approves December spending, authorizes truck purchase and sets Ridge opening

The Village Board of the Village of Sussex met Jan. 27 and approved a slate of routine financial and administrative items, including $2,403,209.67 in December check registers and the purchase of a 2026 Ford F-350 to support Parks & Recreation operations.
Trustee Scott Adkins moved to approve the Dec. 9 meeting minutes and the board approved the December check registers and P-card statements. "A motion by Trustee Scott Adkins, seconded by Trustee Ron Wells, approved December Check Registers and P-card statements totaling $2,403,209.67," the minutes record. The vote on the financials was recorded as 4-0.
Park & Recreation brought three items to the board. Trustees approved a motion to purchase a 2026 Ford F-350 1-ton truck at a price of $85,557 (motion by Trustee Ron Wells, seconded by Trustee Bob Landgraf; motion recorded carried 4-0). The board also approved Ridge Facility pricing and a surplus declaration for picnic tables, each by unanimous votes where recorded.
The Plan Commission’s two certified survey map proposals in Highlands Business Park were approved. Trustee Scott Adkins moved to approve a CSM dividing lands at the southwest corner of Business Drive and Highlands Court (Tax Key No. 273.998.002); the motion carried 4-0. President Anthony LeDonne moved to approve a CSM for lands on the east side of Business Drive (Tax Key No. 273.999.002); that motion also carried 4-0.
In committee business, the Finance and Personnel Committee approved the December Ace Hardware purchases totaling $10.26; President Anthony LeDonne is recorded as having abstained, and the motion carried 3-0. The Public Works Committee’s December invoices, totaling $1,702,359.98, were approved on a 4-0 vote.
Staff reports provided operational updates. Assistant Village Administrator Katherine Gehl said, "The Village is hiring for various positions." Village Administrator Jeremy Smith announced a grand opening and ribbon cutting for The Ridge on July 1 and noted the Fire Department’s food drive success: "Over 1,300 pounds of food and supplies were donated to Sussex Outreach Services," he said. Village Attorney John Macy reported he is monitoring potential state bills that could affect the village. Clerk/Treasurer Jennifer Boehm told the board, "Absentee ballots were mailed on 1/27 for the 2/17 Primary Election. In-person absentee voting is 2/3-2/13 at the Civic Center from 8:00am-4:30pm."
Trustee Scott Adkins requested that a report on the village's enterprise resource planning (ERP) system be provided to the Finance Committee for review; the minutes record the request but show no formal action or timeline for the report.
There were no public comments. President LeDonne adjourned the meeting at 6:31 p.m.; the next Village Board meeting was listed for Feb. 24.
