The Tennessee Cosmetology & Barber Examiners Board on June 1 authorized staff to execute two‑year probationary agreed orders for several applicants with prior convictions or surrendered licenses, allowing them to proceed to testing and potential licensure under conditions that the board said protect the public.
Legal counsel and staff explained that the agreed order requires a 24‑month probationary period during which a licensee who violates board rules would face automatic revocation under the agreed terms. "We're asking them to sign the agreed order as part of the test packet so there is already an understanding," Roxanna Gamusio said. The board authorized the executive director to obtain signatures and proceed with testing once orders are in place.
The board also approved an extension to allow Lindsey Chapman to complete licensure after passing exams more than six months earlier, and approved an extension for Marcus Williams to apply for licensure after a delayed exam completion.
Separately, board staff reviewed complaints and documentation around Revive Beauty & Wellness Institute, a school that closed and stopped responding to students. Charlene Purnell of CDRS Academy of Beauty supplied exported student‑hour records from the closed school’s system. The board voted to release the hours collected by Ms. Purnell so students can complete licensing steps and take exams, and directed staff to prepare withdrawal documents identifying the board's decision.
