Pelham wins $90,000 literacy grant to expand LETRS training and coaching

The Pelham School District announced it will receive a competitive literacy grant of $90,000 — $45,000 per year for two years — to support elementary literacy, Assistant Superintendent Sarah Mirandos told the board and viewers.
Mirandos said the 'Bridging the Gap 603' award will fund districtwide professional learning in the science of reading, including LETRS (Lexia) training for teachers and administrators, coach visits from the state, expanded use of the Acadience early-literacy screener, and parent‑engagement activities. "We got $90,000 so $45,000 a year for the next 2 years," she said.
District leaders said the grant will complement ongoing Walk-to-Learn intervention blocks (30 minutes, three times weekly) and help align instructional practices across grade levels. The district intends to complete the first four LETRS units by August and aims to measure progress through screening and SAS remediation plans.
Administration said the funding will pay for coach time, training stipends and screener access; future reporting to the board will show implementation timelines and how the grant supports the district’s goal to increase ELA proficiency.
